Privacy Policy
The short version
- Solo games and games against the bots are played on your device and need no sign-up.
- When the app starts with a connection, it creates an anonymous guest ID so that online Challenges can work. On its own, that ID holds nothing about you.
- If you open Challenges and choose a player name, your profile, matches, leaderboard entry and a cloud save of your statistics are stored online. Other players see your player name and results.
- Linking a Google account is optional.
- The app shows rewarded video ads from Google AdMob, only when you choose to watch one. A one-time purchase removes them.
- We do not sell personal information, and we have added no analytics or crash-reporting software.
1.Who we are
Just Yahtzee (com.mani.justyahtzee) is a dice game for Android, published on Google Play by A byte of Everything (Mads Kristensen). In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the developer.
For anything about your data or this policy, email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com.
2.Data kept on your device
The app keeps these on your device:
- your solo statistics (games played, highest score, average score and Yahtzee count) and your record against the bots;
- your settings (sound, vibration, strict joker rules, auto-roll first roll, auto-place Yahtzee, bot speed, show best pick, large text and default bot difficulty);
- your Remove ads status and a daily count of games played, for the free-games limit;
- whether the app has asked you for a rating, and a local copy of your player name, notification setting and online statistics.
You can reset your statistics in Settings, under Your data → Reset statistics. If you use Challenges, a copy of your statistics is also kept in your cloud save (see Online play and your account).
Clearing the app's storage in Android settings (usually Settings → Apps → Just Yahtzee → Storage → Clear data; the names vary by phone) or uninstalling the app removes everything the app keeps on your device.
3.Online play and your account
When the app starts with a connection, it signs in anonymously to Firebase Authentication and receives a random user ID, the guest ID. This happens automatically, without a sign-up, so that Challenges work the moment you open them. The guest ID carries no name, email address or anything else about you, and reinstalling the app usually gives you a new one.
Everything below is created only if you open Challenges and choose a player name. It is stored against your user ID in Cloud Firestore, in our Firebase project:
- your player profile: the player name you choose and your player-versus-player record (games, wins, losses and best score). Other players see your player name in challenges, in matches and on the leaderboard;
- your matches and challenges: the dice rolled, the categories scored, the turn order and timestamps, so that your opponent can replay your turn roll by roll;
- your leaderboard entry: player name, games, wins, losses and best score, shown in the public Top 25 in the app;
- a cloud save of your game statistics, so that your progress survives a reinstall or a second phone.
Your player name can be changed once, from the Challenges screen. Pick a name other than your real name if you would rather not be identified.
4.Anonymous totals
The app adds to a few anonymous totals in our Firebase database: ads watched and ads that could not be shown (by where in the app and, for an ad not shown, why: none was available, it took too long to load, or it failed to show), purchases, matches started (by format and opponent type) and challenges posted (by format). The totals contain no user ID or device identifier. They are updated whether or not you use Challenges.
5.Linking a Google account
Linking a Google account is optional: every part of the game, online play included, works without it. If you link one, Firebase Authentication stores that Google account's email address, name, account ID and the link to its profile picture, so that your player profile can be restored on another phone.
We do not use your email address to contact you or for marketing, and other players never see it. Google handles sign-in data under Google's Privacy Policy.
You can link one on the Challenges screen, or in Settings under Your data → Account, where you can also sign out again.
6.Advertising
You get three free games a day. After that, you can choose to watch a rewarded video ad for another game; if no ad is available, the game is unlocked anyway. There are no banner ads, and an ad never interrupts a game in progress. To keep the wait short, the app may load an ad in advance when you are one game away from the daily limit; it is shown only if you choose to watch it. Once you buy Remove ads, the app makes no further ad requests.
Ads are served by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google's advertising software in the app may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address and an approximate location derived from it, general information about your device, and how you interact with the ads. Google handles this data under Google's Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
If you are in a region where the law requires consent, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form (the User Messaging Platform) before it requests ads. Your answer decides whether Google may personalise the ads you see. You can review or change it at any time in the app under Settings → Ad privacy.
7.Purchases
Remove ads is an optional one-time purchase processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment, and we never receive your card or other payment details. The app remembers the purchase on your device, and Google Play keeps its own record of it under your Google account.
The app also adds one to the anonymous purchases total (see Anonymous totals).
Google Play gives us a record of each Remove ads order, with details such as the order number, the product and the time, but never your card or other payment details. We keep these records to track sales and refunds.
8.Notifications
Reminders about your online matches are scheduled on your device by the app itself. No push notification service is used, and no notification data leaves your device. Android asks you once whether to allow notifications.
9.Other connections the app makes
Besides the guest ID, Challenges and ads, the app connects to:
- Google Firebase software. When the app starts with a connection, it loads Google's Firebase software from Google's servers (www.gstatic.com).
- Google Fonts. When the app starts with a connection, it loads its typefaces (Fraunces and Hanken Grotesk) from Google Fonts, so Google's servers see your IP address.
- Google Play Billing, when you buy or restore Remove ads.
- Google Play's in-app review. If the app asks you to rate it, the rating dialog is Google Play's own.
- The Google Play Store, when you tap Rate this game in Settings, which opens the game's Play Store page.
We have added no analytics or crash-reporting software to the app.
10.Sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal information.
Other players see your player name and results, as described above. Google provides our sign-in and database (Firebase) and purchases (Google Play) as a service provider. Google's AdMob software, which serves our ads, sends Google the data described under Advertising, and Google uses it under its own policies. We share your data with no one else.
In the terms of Google Play's Data safety section: Google's AdMob software collects and shares your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers, your approximate location (from your IP address), your interactions with the app and the ads (such as app launches, taps and video views) and diagnostic information, for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. We collect your user ID, your player name, your matches, leaderboard entry and cloud save, and the email address and name of a Google account if you link one, to run online play and manage your account, and we do not share them. The anonymous totals are app interactions too; we use them only for analytics.
11.Security and retention
Everything the app sends to our Firebase project travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Your profile, leaderboard entry and cloud save are kept until your account is deleted. An open challenge that nobody accepts expires after 24 hours and is removed afterwards. Finished matches older than 30 days are deleted by the app the next time a player in the match opens their matches.
12.Your choices and deleting your data
- Play solo or against the bots. Only Challenges create a profile.
- Skip Google. Challenges work without linking an account.
- Delete your account in the app. From version 6.26, tap the gear (Settings), then under Your data tap Delete account & data. It deletes your online account and its data, and this game's data on your phone. Delete your account and data lists everything that is removed and kept, and how to ask us by email.
- Change your player name once, from the Challenges screen.
- Change your ad consent choice in the app under Settings → Ad privacy.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ad personalisation, in your phone's settings (on most phones Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- Reset your statistics in Settings, under Your data → Reset statistics.
- Clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app, to remove everything it keeps on your device.
Your rights. Under data protection law (the GDPR) you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or give it to you in a machine-readable format. Where the app asks for your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, as described above. Email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com to use any of these rights; we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) or to the data protection authority where you live.
13.Children
Just Yahtzee is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child under 13 has created an online profile, email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com and we will delete it.
14.Changes to this policy
If the way Just Yahtzee handles data changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
15.Contact
Questions about this policy or about the app: email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com. If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and we use them only to answer you.
An email started from Help & feedback in the app's Settings is pre-filled with the app version, your phone model, Android version and WebView version. You can edit or remove them before sending.
The Discord row in Help & feedback opens a page on this website. Once the Just series has a Discord server, that row leads to Discord, an external service run by Discord Inc. under its own privacy policy. The app sends Discord nothing.
